Best Jobs for 2015Looking for a job, mapping out a career path or changing professions?

A new report by Glassdoor might offer some direction. It lists the 25 best jobs in America for 2015 in terms of base annual salary, career opportunities and the number of job openings.

And there’s good news for anyone pursuing a business degree or career in corporate management, as several of the top jobs come from the business sector.

The report ranks physician assistant as the year’s No. 1 job, followed by software engineer, business development manager, human resources manager,  finance manager and marketing manager.

Physician assistant stood out for its high annual pay, career opportunities and number of job openings (45,484).  This position has an average base salary of $111,376, according to the Glassdoor report, though the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) lists the median salary for this position as $92,970.

Finance managers had the highest earning potential according to the report at $122,865 (compared with a $112,700 median salary according to the BLS).

If getting a job quickly is a top priority, becoming a software engineer is a smart bet.  The position is expected to have 104,848 job openings in 2015, far more than any other position. Other top business jobs will have significantly fewer, such as 9,728 openings for finance manager jobs and 14,647 for marketing managers.

Among the top business jobs, those looking to become a human resources manager might consider locating to California, Texas, New York, Florida and Pennsylvania, big states with the most openings, according to the most recent figures from the BLS. The top-paying places for that job were District of Columbia, Connecticut, Maryland, Virginia and New Jersey.

Pay can vary within a profession. The pay for a marketing manager, for example, can range from $64,440 to more than $166,250, according to the BLS, with the median pay at $123,220. The same goes for finance managers, whose median pay stands at $112,700 but can dip to $61,320 or exceed $153,970 a year.

Other jobs likely to be high demand this year will be sales managers (No. 10), quality assurance engineers (No. 13) and physician therapists (No. 19).

The 25 Best jobs in America report ranked professions on a 5-point scale with 5 being the best job and 1 being the worse.

The number of openings per job title represented the total number of postings between Oct. 21, 2014, and Jan. 20, 2015, on Glassdoor, a website where employees and former employees submit anonymous reviews and salary information about companies.
