Datapalooza Celebrates Innovation in Higher Education

In answer to President Obama’s call for better access to higher education for those with less money, experts gathered this month at a summit called the Education Datapalooza, hosted by the White House and the Department of Education.

In a blog post on the Department of Education website, Education Secretary Arne Duncan wrote that meeting was part of the president’s plan to make education affordable for every American.

The Unemployment Rates Drops to 6.7%, But Numbers Show Weakness in Job Gains

The nation’s unemployment rate fell to 6.7% in December – but primarily because so many people dropped out of the workforce, according to numbers from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

The 6.7% number is the lowest since October 2008. However, the BLS reported that 347,000 people stopped looking for work. The federal government only counts those who are looking for work but unable to find a job as the “unemployed.”
