National Veterans Small Business WeekWith almost one in ten small businesses in the U.S. run by veterans, there are plenty of places to shop to support National Veterans Small Business Week, which takes place from Nov. 3-7.

The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and the White House are celebrating National Veterans Small Business Week and hope to encourage other Americans to do the same.

“Demonstrating the virtues that make America great, our veterans embody the integrity and dedication to service that reflect the true meaning of patriotism,” said President Barack Obama in a White House memo. “This week, let us recommit to supporting them and the small businesses that power the greatest economic engine the world has ever known.”

Veterans who own a business or may be interested in starting one can participate in one of the many events taking place this week.

Events sponsored by the SBA will be held all week long, all across the country. They will cover topics such as government contracting, entrepreneurship training, expert panels and matching businesses to government contracts.

A full list of SBA activities for National Veterans Small Business Week can be found here. The SBA also works year-round to provide veterans the support and resources they need to realize their dreams of starting a business.

People who cannot make the in-person events can still enjoy a special episode of the ABC television show “Shark Tank” celebrating veteran entrepreneurs and small business owners.

The episode will be aired on Friday, November 7 at 9 p.m. EST and will feature an appearance by First Lady Michelle Obama.

All veteran entrepreneurs are encouraged to share their stories on social media this week as well. The SBA wants veterans to show off their businesses using the hashtag #MyVetBiz.
