ThreatMetrix, a provider of integrated cyber-crime prevention products, won the Bronze award for Most Innovative Security Product of the Year at the 2013 Global Excellence Awards. The honors, which are sponsored by information security researcher Info Security Products Guide, recognized the ThreatMetrix Cybercrime Defender Platform.

In the company’s press release, Reed Tausig, CEO of ThreatMetrix, calls the ThreatMetrix Cybercrime Defender Platform “one of the most advanced cybersecurity solutions on the market.” Tausig claims that his company and its latest security product is “ahead of the curve” in terms of real protection from cyber-criminals.

The ThreatMetrix platform currently protects the security of more than 8,500 websites, according to the company. It is the first platform on the market that has an advanced device-recognition component in addition to malware recognition. Among the several cybersecurity tools on the platform, there is the TrustDefender ID, which recognizes technology devices, as well as TrustDefender Mobile, which is designed for smartphone applications. ThreatMetrix claims that the volume of mobile transactions across its network grew by 500 percent in 2011 alone.

The company received the honor in late February at the 9th annual Global Excellence Awards, which were determined by a vote of more than 50 judges who work in various industries. Info Security Products Guide sponsors the event to keep end-users up-to-date on preventative security methods.

Qualified information security professionals can help prevent cyber-crime by gathering data through existing platforms and developing new security software.

The first step toward getting a job in information security is to get a bachelor’s degree in the field, and more institutions are offering degrees that specialize in IT security. Western Governors University and Colorado Technical University, for example, both offer a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology with an emphasis in security. ITT Tech offers a degree in Information Systems Security in its online degree program, which teaches both the technical and management aspects of information systems security.
