The United States Congress should establish an accreditation agency to assess the value of free college-level courses offered over the Internet, according to Mark Rubio, a U.S. senator and potential 2016 Republican presidential candidate.

Rubio’s idea is part of an overhaul he is proposing for how students earn four-year degrees, a plan that also calls for alternatives to four-year colleges for some disciplines and income-based repayments for college loans.

College Graduation Rates Remain Flat, New Study Finds

With all the attention and focus on college education by both the government and private sector, college graduate rates have actually stalled, a new study has found.

About 56% of students who entered college as freshman in 2007 had earned a degree six years later, according to a report from the National Student Clearinghouse Research Center. That rate is the same as it was in 2006.

College Prices Increase at Slowest Rate in 30 Years

While tuition prices continue to increase at many schools across the country, there was actually a slowdown in the price increase in 2013 at public universities in the United States, according to a new study.

The average cost of attending a four-year public university increased by 2.9%, according to the annual “Trends in Higher Education” report from the College Board. That’s the lowest increase in 30 years.
